This year, I made a resolution to start stretching everyday. While I made lots of big goals that require a lot of headspace, dedication and sometimes strenuous effort (like investing in stocks or planning a trip abroad, eek!) I wanted a goal that was more subtle, but equally as profound. Not every goal needs to be big, bold and crazy- but there is power in small, daily and deliberate acts that can have a positive impact in your life- and that is precisely why I resolved to stretch this year.
I’m going to be stretching literally and figuratively, emotionally and physically. I have resolved to take time each morning to stretch out and work on my flexibility this year. When I was a kid, I was in a biking accident that left me in a wheelchair for nearly a year. Since that time, I never really regained my flexibility. I’m hoping to change that this year.
I usually do my yoga moves before I leave for the office in the morning for 10-15 minutes. If I get to work from home, I’ll take a mid-day stretch break during my lunch break. Keeping things easy and low key make it possible to be consistent. Any habit that is meant to be a daily practice needs to be seamless & small to start- otherwise it’s easy to drop the ball.
As you can see, I can never unroll my yoga towel without Matilda coming to investigate. She likes to sit (rather closely mind you) and watch me work. That is, until I go to flip over and stretch out my calves, and she has to coach me through my next moves…honestly, she’s a little pest, but I love how curious she is.
Matilda loves to try and lay on top of me, lick my face or attack my toes whenever I go to stretch out. It’s usually a good indicator of my mood if I find this hilarious or aggravating, but either way, it’s a good way to reset my day and ensure I don’t take things too seriously- nothing like a rambunctious pug trying to give you kisses to start your day!
Apparently, it’s a thing that pets love to do..interrupt yoga….

What a great goal! Flexibility is really important!
It is! I sadly don’t think it gets enough attention.
Stretching can do miracles to your body! I’ve been doing it for the past few years and I’ve never felt this great.
