How To Bake Soft Dog Treats That Are So Tasty Your Dog Won't Notice Their Pills Are Hiding Inside

Dog treats are expensive, so are vet visits when you have a sick pup.  Ralph, our pug, had to take pills regularly and was very fickle about what he’d eat, and was very savvy to the normal tricks we’d use to hide pills in his food.

Though we saw the vet often, there was nothing more frustrating or stressful as trying to trick him into eating his pills, knowing it would be bad for him and bad for our wallet if he didn’t get the right dosage. So, we decided to start baking our own treats and they worked!

Ingredients:

Baby Food
Cream of Wheat
Powered Milk

Cooking Time:

Preheat the oven to 350 & cook for 15 minutes.

Three ingredients, that you can grab at your grocer.  Depending on the batch you want to make, you can use 1 or two containers of baby food in any desired flavor (just avoid anything with grapes!) and simply add dry ingredients until they make a paste.

Then, after the dry ingredients have made the baby food into a good paste, you can wet your hands and grab some bits to make them little dough balls. They will be very sticky, so wet hands are essential so they actually can be rounded up for the baking sheet.

Bake these for about 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees until they’re golden, but not browned.  You’ll want them still pliable enough to hide pills in or be soft enough for older dogs.

These soft treats for dogs are easy for older dogs to eat if they have sensitive teeth and tummies, but also great for any pets you have that need to take pills on a regular basis.

You can store them in the fridge for up to 7 days and they will make both you and your pets happy- pill time becomes treat time, even for the fickle eaters out there!

Enjoy & give your dog a hug for me!

  1. Good idea! I’m going to have to try this “recipe” out. My pups love treats!

  2. These look great! I am definitely going to be making these soon. I like to make frozen pup treats for my dog with plain yogurt mixed with peanut butter or pumpkin and then freeze in a Dixie cup- he loves them and they’re so much cheaper than the real thing!

I was just looking at treats yesterday at the pet store but there are too many mystery ingredients and the price is too high. I’m going to give these a try, thanks for sharing!
