I’ve been spending time with loved ones in California and this is treasured time for me. This trip was a good chance to reconnect with people who are special to me and I got the chance to spend some time with a dear friend’s little one who will be turning 1 soon… which sort of astounds me!
How does time go so fast? If you blink you might miss it! Being a parent is hard work. I don’t have kids yet, but my friends are super-parents with their son. I wanted to put together something special for them since I’ll be missing his birthday later this year. I headed to T.J. Maxx, which I’ve talked about before for active wear, but I also love to shop for things for the little ones!
I set out with a $50 budget to put something special together for a little boy’s birthday basket.
Here’s what I got:
I was able to get all of this stuff, basket included, for $50. I LOVE the rocket blanket, and I got it on clearance! I was able to snag the bib, blanket, facecloths & outfit on even steeper clearance than the items already were priced! I also snagged the cute basket for $5- which will be good for toy storage later!
I was super stoked to find one of my favorite children’s books, which I hope will be special for this family too. I hope they have lots of snuggly evenings with their little ones as they read to him. Books, seriously, are the best!
Of course, I HAD to get the little one a piggy bank for his first birthday:
This piggy bank was $5.99 and as a frugality blogger, it would be reckless if I didn’t get him a piggy bank. Since I was able to save some dollars on this gift basket for his birthday, I’ll be able to spare a few to get him started!
I had a blast shopping for things for the birthday boy. Who wouldn’t love snuggling up to a super soft rocket ship blanket, a good book and some other goodies? I’m stoked I could find a copy of “The Giving Tree” ($10) and an adorable little piggy bank to help give the little one a bit more for his big first birthday!
Being on budget & being able to do something nice for some friends make spring even better… warm weather and little surprises make me happy!
What have you purchased lately that really made your heart smile?
What a cute themed basket! Love!
Thanks!
I love it when I can buy something directly from the artist and this past weekend I scored big time at a comic book festival when I bought a hand-painted limited edition canvas bag signed by the artist for only $21. Best of all I got to talk to her about her process, the story the art was from and her choices in watercolors for the design. Most people think buying handmade goods is expensive, but because they are so well made they will last forever. Plus, you often get the extras like knowing who made it and how.
That sounds like a great deal, and it’s always nice to be able to support local artists!
Such a great gift from a great friend!
I love this post. Every child should have a piggy bank. It teaches them a very valuable lesson, early in life. The squid bib was also too cute!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
