It’s no secret that the use of smart phones can be life saving for travelers, literally and figuratively. Whether you’re lost in a new city or confronted with a language barrier, these apps will ensure you seamlessly fit into your new surroundings without ever needing to refold a complex map.
One of my favorite apps to use at home or when I’m on the road! All Around Me locates your position and then provides the location for whatever you’re in search of. Coffee shops, gas stations, lodging, or even if you’re just looking for a place that serves burgers, All Around Me offers a list of locations as well as directions and estimated travel time.
The easiest way to lose track of your spending when abroad is forgetting to calculate the currency exchange. This not only allows you to not only convert prices, but also acconnt for a credit card of ATM exchange rate!
To make sure you’re ordering chicken pasta rather than fried shark, turn to Google Translate to help you decipher what you read as well as what you’d like to say in a multitude of languages. Google Translate quickly translates words, phrases and paragraphs while providing you with the pronunciation for the language of your choice.
While staying hydrated is necessary when traveling, it does come at a cost. If you can’t make it back to your hotel, AirPnP gives you the location of available restrooms all over the world. Your bladder will thank you.
As clearly stated in it’s name, Free Wi-Fi Finder does just that. finds you free (and paid for) WiFi! Quickly locate a hotspot so you’re never left without your Instagram again.
What’s your favorite app to use when traveling?
While I use All Around Me the most, I also love to use Snapseed when traveling to edit my pictures. Although it’s not an entirely “necessary” app, it does make those sunset and city skylines even more glorious.

Whoever invented the bathroom app is a genius.
Couldn’t agree more! It’s perfect for road trips and when you can’t find a Starbucks!
Great apps! Thanks so much for the roundup! I see these coming in handy when I travel!
Oh good! They certainly make traveling a little less stressful.
I would use that bathroom app all the time, not just when traveling.
So true. Necessary in daily life too haha.
AirPnP sounds amazing! Can’t wait to give it a try.
I’d also add WhatsApp to this list. It’s amazing for texting people no matter where you are. These are all great apps!
xx, Pia
WhatsApp is definitely a good one, too!
One of our fav travel apps is called Simply Declare, particularly when traveling abroad. Free version is the basic for managing receipts for customs, allowing me to take snaps of my receipts. We did upgrade to the paid, because we need more currencies and features.
