To me, thank you notes are the most important part of any gift-given shindig. When one is getting married or having a baby, it’s common to get showered with lots of awesome goodies, usually right before a big life change, and while it’s easy to just “phone it in,” when it comes to the thank you note roundup, I’m happy to report there’s a way to do exactly that but still top the list of the “most thoughtful thank you notes EVER.”
Technology nowadays, is amazing- and it enables us to be even classier. I recently got the opportunity to try the coolest thing ever- the ability to print photos from my iPhone on my home printer, thanks to my Canon PIXMA MG7120 Wireless Inkjet All-in-One Printer. No ordering prints, no running to the store- I literally can print photos from Facebook or camera roll (including saved Instagram images) with the click of a button from my phone using PIXMA Cloud App and Wifi.
Seriously. I love the fact that no matter where our family is, we can easily create handcrafted cards that share special moments and creatively includes everyone. Since our family lives in other states, when gifts are sent, I want them to experience the joy it brings- and nothing says it better than a picture! I’m a huge proponent of sending heartfelt thank you notes, but being able to show them we loved what they sent, or the look of surprise as I open their thoughtful gift is even better. The traditional side of me loves being able to convey gratitude with a handwritten note, but the techie side of me is even happier to know I can do it with the click of a button!

When it comes to thank you notes, I firmly believe this is the most important part of any gift-giving get together. I’m getting married next year, and have attended my fair share of showers. I’ve seen Maids of Honor take studious notes on who gives what so the bride-to-be can be sure her thank you notes align with the gifts and givers appropriately- but how cool would it be, if your Maid of Honor took photos of your special moments instead?
Not only does this save everyone time, but it’s especially special for loved ones who couldn’t attend your shower or engagement party to see your glee when you open a gift they sent, making them feel appreciated and a part of your special day. I decided to take this new photo printing technology for a spin to see how easy it would be to create personalized thank you notes using my Instagram photos and my iPhone, to create personalized thank you-notes with DIY flair and the click of a button.
Since I LOVE vintage photos (probably why I’m such an Instagram junkie) I thought it would be awesome to make some Polaroid-style thank you notes printed from my iPhone. The photos are printed from my iPhone using the PIXMA App and are just as instant and painless as a Polaroid, without the expensive film.
Within seconds, I had fun photos that could be cut with scissors to replicate an old-fashioned Polaroid which could be sent as-is as a thank you postcard, or, affixed on an existing thank you note to send. These photos would look so cute hung up in an office cubicle or on the fridge and do an excellent job of highlighting your connection to the gift giver.
You can easily print photos of your friends and your bridal shower, bachelorette party or engagement party- or for loved ones who send a gift but can’t attend, it does an excellent job of showing that you loved the gift and cannot wait to use it. As a gal who lives 2,000 miles from most of my family, being able to convey the appreciation and make my family feel involved is so special.
The best thing is about the new PIXMA Cloud App is that you can print your photos from anywhere. You can also print photos from your camera roll (with saved Instagram photos), Facebook and Twitter using your phone- so if shower attendees have captured some special moments, you can easily print their photos without hassle from these social sites. Quickly compile bridal shower moments into thank you cards from a variety of sources- your phone, social media, or storage sites like Dropbox and Picasa. The app can pull in a variety of photo sources, and with a click of the button, your photos will be printed and waiting for you at home. (Wouldn’t this be an amazing “photo booth” idea for your next party?)
Using the PIXMA Cloud App from my iPhone
For Polaroid Style Instagram prints, simply print your photos with a border on 4×6″ photo paper (options available in the app). The photos dry pretty darn quick and you simply cut the top border off the photo.
With a permanent marker, jot a fun note. You can send these cards as a postcard, or simply washi tape them to a blank card to send with a sweet note on the other side.
Your loved ones, especially the far-away ones, will see that you loved the gifts or will have a special moment that they can put up in their cubicle or on their fridge. Since Instagram already has a ton of fun filters, you’ll have an old style Polaroid feeling photo without the need to buy pricey film!
(Enjoy my ‘hammin’ it up’ face with those mason jars. That’s 100% authentic.)

This is a genius idea!
Thanks so much Kat! I love printing my Instagrams and social media photos… in the digital age, we don’t take enough time to share our photos!
I love this for all thank you notes! I know how much I appreciate a thank you note, and want to put more effort into mine. Very cool idea.
Love this. Great idea!
omg I NEED this in my life!
I think you and I are active enough on social that printing them out once in awhile is a good idea….we have soo many photos!
Whitney and I have always been big on thank you notes/cards. Something like this seems like it would really help add that personal touch. Great post!
You guys are always good with sending thank you notes..I still have the thank you note from your wedding, it was so sweet I had to keep it!
Very cool! I already use a Canon PIXMA printer (an older, wired model), but this wireless (“wireless means no wires!”) Canon PIXMA sounds really awesome! Love the polarized Instagram photo ideas too. I always post a bunch of Instagram pics, but would love the ability to easily print them directly from my phone! If my current Canon PIXMA ever gives out (which might not happen for a looooong time, since Canon makes amazing products), I will definitely stick with the PIXMAs!!
Thanks for reaffirming for me that Canon is best boss of all printers 🙂
Wireless does mean no wires….I still giggle about that years later! Your dad, lol. Canon is the boss daddy of all printers… I’m a fangirl fo shiggidy! Thanks for stopping by bestie!
