I’m still on cloud 9- getting engaged a few weeks ago has left me totally giddy. I still blush when people ask to see the ring and every single time I get a congratulatory tweet or blog comment, I get so excited. It’s been a fun ride so far, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has offered advice and their wishes.
As excited as I am, I’m still a wee bit nervous. I’m still brainstorming a venue- but I feel I will need my amazing readers and all of my “unofficial wedding planners” to help me scout out ideas that will capture the vibe I’m going for to create our wedding. I’m not going for a “50’s diner” theme… though I’m using Tiffany Blue in my color scheme, I’m not going for a “sock hop” or poodle skirt type shindig. It’s a thin line to walk, but I hope you get the gist of the look/feel below!
Route 66
Tiffany Blue, Coral Red, Creme. (as much as I would be excited for a rainbow palette!)
June 2015
Southern California – prefer to be in Los Angeles where Route 66 ends if we can find the right venue!
Vintage Americana, Nostalgia, Kitsch, Roadtrip Grunge (you see a lot of old signs, gas stations, cars and rust on Route 66), playful, laid back, homemade.
Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Neil Young, Creedence Clearwater, Rolling Stones with some more modern classics like ACDC, Van Halen (hubs fave), Social Distortion, Black Keys.

Our theme tells a story… born, raised and fell in love along stops on Route 66
Yes…there will be pugs. {source: Elizabeth Anne Designs}
Jones Soda or Vintage Coke Bottles? I like both…the colors and personalized labels of Jones gets me!
I love this but, “We Met Our Match”…what do you think?
Chances are, we’re going to be serving a LOT of beer. I adore this idea, even if it’s been done a ton.
I love the little jack&coke bottles – great idea. Looks like you are going to have a lot of fun planning!
So freaking cute! I really love the color scheme (who doesn’t love Tiffany blue?) and the whole theme. So creative 🙂
I’d go with Jones over Coke!
I will tell you (from personal experience working with a catering company) that if you really love an idea, it doesn’t matter if it’s overdone. It’s your wedding, the one day in your adult life where you should be able to do things you want to do.
Also, don’t spend too much on favors. Trust me, I’ve run hundreds of weddings and you’d be surprised at how many people don’t even take them home. Personally, I think that it just so rude! Do something you like that is affordable and leave it at that. Oh, and you really can’t overdo candles.
All of this sounds wonderful! Your picture ideas are great as well. I can’t wait for more wedding planning posts. I have been falling behind on mine haha
I love the colors & ideas! Martha Stewart Weddings magazine featured a really cute wedding with these colors (I think it was between Summer 2010 – Summer 2011 – I came across it planning my own wedding), so I would check that out for inspiration.
I also think this theme could be cool incorporated into a DIY photo booth – sort of a backdrop with props where guests can take their own pictures. Good luck with your planning!
I love the jones soda! We made the wine and bottled it for our personalized favors and I handmade tags for our rustic fairy tale wedding vibe. 99.9% of my wedding was diy all pinterest inspired.
No tips, but I just got engaged 2 weeks ago and am now following your pinterest board. Oh and my vote is for Jones soda — tasty and super cute bottles 🙂
Keep it about the two of you joining a life together in marriage. Don’t get too sucked into the “wedding”. The wedding is 1 day, the marriage is for life. Wish you all the best.
It would be so cute if you could find a way to have a mini-soda/ice cream/malt shoppe in addition to the bar. Like a way for people to indulge in dessert/sweet treats in a vintage way, especially if it’s a daytime or early reception. This would also be good if you have a lot of children coming. If it’s mostly an adult party, then it might not be as relevant.
I love the Jones bottles!! <3
LOVE the theme and look/feel!! I will have to think about the venues, I used to work in the San Gabriel Valley, and definitely there are a ton of affordable options…also, what about Claremont? Great vintage feel! Also, consider Heritage Park in Santa Fe Springs…although I am sure if you went further east the options might be more creative and less rules on the venue too! And I love your music selection too aghh!! Johnny Cash and CCR heaven!
Honestly I’d skip the wedding favors. Favors are usually left behind after a wedding (trust me). If you like the look, maybe you can do the Jones Soda/Coke for the wedding party and for pictures.
there are awesome beautiful wedding mood boards.. it makes weddding more joyful. thanks for sharing it .!
