I’ve been popping around the blogosphere and reading some fabulous Christmas time traditions- it got me thinking of what I do every year that totally gives me the warm fuzzies. While I don’t camp out for Black Friday or have an Advent Calendar in my home, it’s just not Christmas unless the fur babies are involved. Surely, I cannot be the only one who shops for her pets.
Every year, I try and get a little something for the puggies- many of you know of my rescue pug Ralph whom I adopted nearly 2 years ago in Chicago. You may not know that my dad and I also have three other pugs in California- Bailey, Kahlua and Martini. They’re little rascals and I love them lots, but it can’t be the holidays unless Santa brings them a little something.
I was so excited to team up with Chewy.com again this year to get all the items the puggies love, and I love to buy (ahem, because they don’t need to know I scored a deal and the chicken treats are low in fat)! They always have every brand I’m looking for and I love the freedom of not having to lug home heavy dog food and have it instead, delivered to my door with free shipping for orders over $49.
Each year, I keep Christmas for the fur babies frugal by not only looking for deals, but get them treats that are healthy and suit their needs- which for pugs always means weight control and for Ralph, toys and treats to reduce his separation anxiety. The Calm Treats are perfect when we travel and the he always uses stuffed toys to chew on when he’s wound up after I get home- the Gingerbread man stuffed toy was an obvious choice to go under the tree!
I realize the pugs don’t know it’s a holiday- they just care about the snacks in front of them, but like most of us pet owners, our fur babies are treated like part of the family and it’s not the same without including them in a few of the festivities!
Of course! Jaeden is my son and always has a stocking and presents 🙂
Haha, well Jaeden is such a cute fur baby I know he deserves some goodies!
I always get my dog a present – such a loser xo
Haha Livi- I know… I feel silly but I don’t care! I love having a little something for them under the tree- even if it’s part of their “regular treat” lineup. This year I got a little gingerbread man since they love to play tug and the arms were perfect!
I’ve got kitties and they have their own stockings and get presents every year 🙂 They’re members of the family too!
I totally agree! Our cats are mainly outdoor hunter types, but our pugs are totally spoiled!
I have a big rabbit (who thinks he’s a dog) and two cockatiels. They all get presents, stockings, and the birds sing(ish) and bop along to the music on Christmas day. We have many pics of Harry (rabbit) ripping open his presents. My husband comes home from work and announces “Where are my sons and daughter?” and they all start waddling over to him – they really are family, so of course we’d include them in gift giving!!
We also bring gifts down to the no-kill shelter I volunteer at so those little guys have a little holiday cheer until they find forever homes.
Gigi, I absolutely love your traditions- especially that you give to the no-kill shelter and make it special for them too! I used to volunteer with our local animal sanctuary but haven’t been in years- I really should change that!
Absolutely! I always have a couple of presents under the tree for my dog, Bear! I think he’s on the naughty list this year (my toddler and him are co-conspirators) but he’s too sweet not to shop for!
Aww, too cute!
[…] Now, I’ll be honest, I can’t mention Pretty Fluffy without thinking about Frugal Beautiful and vice versa. As far as I know, they have nothing to do with each other. The Pretty Fluffy girls are in Australia and Shannyn recently relocated to California from Chicago. But they seem to have the same sense of style, the same love for their dogs, and the desire to get them great things without spending a ton of money. For Shannyn, it’s just not Christmas if she’s not celebrating with the fur babies. […]

I saw the cutest dog Santa outfit on the web too!
