Turn Ideas Into Passion Projects- Business Boutique by Christy Wright

April 24, 2017

Business Boutique by Christy Wright is the type of book I wish had been around when I started blogging for side hustle income five years ago.  This blog, started as a way to document my life on a pretty challenging $800 a month budget, and quickly went from a hobby to means of survival to help pay my bills in graduate school and later to pay off my student loans.

I was able to get my hands on a copy of Christy’s new Business Boutique book, and though I’ve been running my own business since 2011, I found that the book was really helpful to lay a smart foundation for turning an idea or hobby into a full fledged business.  What was exceptionally helpful for me, was the step by step detail of figuring out your “why.”

Christy spends a good portion of the book helping you go through the heart and soul of your idea to build a strong foundation to whatever you want to build later- whether you’re a hobby quilter who wants to pay for ballet lessons for your child with side hustle income, or you’re wanting to start your own photography business to be able to quit your desk job.

I spent a good amount of time pouring through the content, and was loving that this book was written for women, by a woman.  Much of the marketing materials that have been around the last few guys were written by men, and while they’re helpful, Christy’s perspective took on the obstacles unique to working mothers and juggling multiple responsibilities which other books didn’t touch.

This book is designed to help you:

– Build a vision for your business, then create a step-by-step, personalized plan to grow
– Help you manage your time to balance existing responsibilities and growing your business
-Overcome challenging obstacles like pricing, taxes, and budgeting in simple terms
-Get on the right path to tell a marketing story that fits who you are and what you sell

This book isn’t just for someone who is getting ready to launch their first business or side hustle, I found it really useful in planning out how to build my other passion project, Virtual Charity Runs.

While I’m proud of the products we create and the charities we help every month, growth and sustainability are a challenge for me.   Our vision is compelling, but getting the word out there so we can continue to give to rescue organizations in need can be overwhelming.  I’ve been side hustling for 5 years as a blogger but having a framework to start over, this time really mindfully, with the training wheels on, has been illuminating.

So, if you’re a woman in business (or getting there!) I recommend you check out this book!

If you’re a woman who wants to side hustle or build full time income from a hobby, passion or crazy idea, I highly recommend picking up Christy Wrights Business Boutique.

If you’re struggling to balance you day job, kids and your business, or you’re not sure how to market yourself without feeling slimy- she has packed the book with practical tips, real life examples you can relate to and worksheets after every chapter to get you there.

If you’re ready to take the plunge on your own business and need a guide that’s geared for the next generation of female entrepreneurship, you can pick up a copy on Amazon or at the Dave Ramsey online store.

Disclosure: I’m working with the Dave Ramsey team and was provided an advance copy of this book for the purpose of review.

I totally agree! There are a lot of books out there that are written by men and lack the perspective of a woman- as we expect to juggle it all..family, finances, career, fitness. Christy did a great job of inspiring me from a relatable place and it is well worth a read!

I want to use my photography skills from college to earn some extra cash to pay down our loans, so this seems like something I need to check out!

That’s an awesome idea, so many of us have skills we don’t put to good use because we don’t see ourselves as businesswomen or that it could earn us money, but it totally can! Let me know how it goes and thanks for commenting!

We have a special needs child, so earning money on the side would be a huge help to pay for her activities and therapy!

Welcome!
