November 2015 Must Read Book Picks FrugalBeautiful.com

Juliette and Shannyn here for our favorite book picks to snuggle up with this November!  Bust out the leggings and a comfy chair!

Juliette’s Picks:

After solemnly packing up my flip flops and sundresses as soon as I smell the first scent of pumpkin spice, I pull out my cozy flannel sheets and heavy knit slippers for the dark winter days I know ahead.

While this isn’t always my favorite time of year, (looking at you, poor apartment heating and icy windshields), there is a bright side. All this extra time indoors means I get to get to participate in one of my favorite activities – guilt free! Reading is the best way for me to unwind after a stressful work day, or to escape to some beachy paradise when the blizzard around me won’t subside. These are my top picks for the books you need to have this holiday season!

Why Not Me?  Mindy Kaling
If The Mindy Project alone didn’t make you fall in love with her, this book is sure to have you laughing out loud. Not only is she relatable, but her brutal honesty makes this a unique read. Pair this with a Merlot and enjoy!

An Untamed State  Roxanne Gay
As a huge fan of Roxanne Gay, I am always intrigued by how her novels force me into uncharted territory. A story about a woman kidnapped and held for ransom brings about questions of government corruption and devastating poverty. Make sure you clear an afternoon for this read, it’s hard to put down.

Love and Miss Communication  Elyssa Friedland
As a self-proclaimed phone addict, this book hits too close to home. If you’re feeling all-too-connected with the outside world, Love and Miss Communication follows a young woman as she realizes that there is so much more to life beyond her screen. So unplug your TV, turn off your ringer and enjoy this one, technology-free.

How to Start A Fire by Liza Lutz
Maintaining adult friendships is a complicated mission once you’ve packed up the college degree and moved on into the ‘real world’. Here’s what happens when college roommates meet up twenty years later and their stories being to unravel.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
Fireplace, hot chocolate and a box of tissues. Or, make that two boxes of tissues. This is what happens when a regular girl living a regular life meets someone who encourages her to see the highest highs and lowest lows, of what life, and death, have to offer.

P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
If you’re feeling chilly, this drama-filled novel is sure to spice things up. A sequel to All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, Han pushes further and attempts to determine if it’s possible to love more than one person with such ferocity. While she may not have all the answers, she does ensure us that perhaps love itself is worth the complicated journey, no matter what.

November Book Recommendations- Big Magic, Rising Strong, Essentialism

Shannyn’s Picks:

I have been at the airport quite a bit in the last month, and I totally judge a book by the cover!  I have been seeing these books everywhere and want to dive in!  As you can tell, I’m a non-fiction junkie. I love personal development and research…and yes, a little woo-woo too! Once in awhile I’ll find a good novel or fiction work, but right now, I’m all about personal development!

Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert

This book is everywhere! Brought to you by the gal who wrote Eat Pray Love, she’s all about teaching us how to overcome fear.  Yes please! I’m pretty ballsy, but often am troubled with anxiety and worry that keeps me stuck. Who wants a little magic in their lives?

Rising Strong: The Reckoning. The Rumble. The Revolution. by Brene Brown
Failure, and the fear of it, is enough to keep most of us from taking action.  Brown is a staple in the personal development space, and has a very relatable way of talking about issues of vulnerability, shame, and uncertainty.  Her work keeps people fresh, highly recommended!

Essentialism by Greg McKeown
I have been pairing down my life constantly for the last few years.  When it comes to my work life though, am I focusing on the right things? How many distractions do I juggle at a time? I’ve seen people reading this book, I can’t wait to dive in!

What are you currently reading?
I’m now in the depths of Tuck Everlasting with my fifth grade reading class. (Brings ya back to middle school, amiright?). I needed to refresh my memory on this classic and I’m remembering why I loved it in the first place!
