The Top 10 Worst Lies That Keep People From Running

  1. I am not an athlete.
(Nobody is until they start.  You can be your own athlete.)
  2. I’m too fat/slow/old to run.
(Have you tried? We’ll talk after you try.)
  3. I can’t afford running shoes, and gear is stupid expensive.
(It totally can be, but you just need enough to be comfortable whilst not being naked, nothing fancy!)
  4. Drivers are going to stare at me when I run by the road.
(Think of your drive today, how many runners do you remember seeing?  If you’re not a stalker, you probably missed most of them!)
  5. I hate running.
(WHY are you running? Because you feel you have to? No, run for something that stirs your soul!)
  6. I’m worried what people will think when they see me try to run.
(Sexy runners don’t exist in real life, they exist in magazines. Welcome to a proud club of ugly running.)
  7. I Don’t Want To Be The Slowest Person At A Race.
(First time runners and new runners make up a large segment of many 5ks,10ks & half marathons- you won’t be alone and chances are, you won’t be last.)
  8. I don’t have time.
(Crossing your first finish line or hitting a fitness goal is worth the time you sacrifice to get in those miles!)
  9. I hate going to the gym.
(The gym isn’t for everyone! Try the park, the beach, fun runs in groups and local charity events.)
  10. I want to run, I just don’t know how to start.
(How do you start? Literally, take it one step at a time. You’ll get there!)

What was a lie you told yourself to keep from running?

OMG I AM SO ANGRY, that Nashville medal is AMAZING! So mad I have to work so much that week and couldn’t make it down 🙁

  2. I don’t know if it’s a lie I tell myself or really just that I’m in pain – but I have terrible shin splints. I would LOVE to actually run for more than 30 seconds without that horrible burn! Walking a marathon? Not a problem….but running to the end of the block pain-free – that would be a dream!!

Awesome tips! I am probably the worst offender of #6. Hopefully people are looking at my cute border collie while I’m running and NOT ME! 😉

  4. Becky says:

I love love my Miss Money Bags cash wallet! It makes me feel trendy, pretty AND helps me stay fiscally responsible. And that’s a win-win. Great job Sarah!

What is that race in Nashville? A half? I LOVE Nashville – my step daughter lives there & I love visiting her just for Nashville 🙂 Don’t tell her I said that 🙂 haha! My grandbabies pull rank anyways 🙂

Oh man… I’ve said those things…even WHILE I’m running 🙂 Yep – I’m a card carrying member of the ugly running club as well 🙂 with flab a’shakin’ & all! 🙂

  6. Amanda says:

    Love these! <3

  7. The biggest lie that kept me from running was “dancers don’t run.” Because I grew p dancing, some weeks up to 7 days a week, I distanced myself from anything having to do with running. But I’m not letting that mindset hold me down anymore, and its now been over 5 months since I started running.

Welcome!
