Shopping online can be a great way to save money. Read our tips below to make sure you're getting the best deals on Amazon.

There’s nothing more convenient than shopping on Amazon. You can find almost anything you need and have it delivered to your door quickly (sometimes within a few hours).

Shopping on Amazon can be a great way to save money, but how can you know you’re getting the best deals? Read our tips below to make sure you’re not overpaying on your online purchases.

Set Up Price Alerts

If you want to buy something for less than its current price, create Amazon price alerts. You’ll be notified when your item reaches your target price. Plus, you can see the item’s price history to see if your expectations are reasonable. Camelcamelcamel even has a Chrome and Firefox extension you can add to your browser, making it easy to make sure you’re getting a good deal.

You might have to be patient to find thes great deals, but this is a hands-off way to save money on the stuff you really want.

Buy Used

Just because you’re buying something online doesn’t mean you have to buy it new. Many Amazon items let you browse through used items, which can be great for DVDs, books and more. You can also shop at Amazon Warehouse, where the retailer houses items that have been opened, but are in great condition.

A quick scan through their inventory shows a Fossil bag almost 50% off and a pair of Badgley Mischka shoes for only $122. Talk about getting luxe for less!

Get a Prime Account

If you love buying on Amazon, but hate paying for shipping, getting a Prime account can be a great way to save money. You’ll get free two-day shipping on Prime items, perfect for last-minute gifts. Prime accounts usually cost $99 a year, but you can sometimes get them on sale for $67. You can share Prime accounts with multiple users, so you can split one between friends. Before you buy an Amazon Prime account, calculate to see how much money you spent in shipping fees last year. That’ll give you an idea if the Prime account is worth the fee.

Plus, if you’re trying to cut the cord, Amazon Prime comes with free TV shows and movies, even rivaling Netflix’s selection.

Subscribe and Save

There’s always some things you have to buy on a regular basis – toilet paper, coffee, kitty litter. Why not use Amazon’s Subscribe and Save program? You can choose how often you want those items delivered, not have to worry about purchasing them every month and receive up to 15% off for being part of the program!

I love doing this with dog food. It’s one of the few things I forget to buy until we’re almost out. Instead of paying more to get it in-store, I buy it on Amazon using the Subscribe and Save program. It comes every two months and I don’t have to worry about my dog going hungry if I forget to order it.

Shop the Outlet

If you aren’t picky, try shopping Amazon’s Outlet instead of their regular selection. Items may be discontinued or heavily marked down. This is a great place to pick up a new laptop or pair of headphones. If you don’t care about getting the latest gadget, this is a great resource to find your next piece of technology.

  1. I love taking a chance on the newly launched users. They typically give you great discounts and you just have to risk if they’ll actually follow through, but for <$100 item it usually works great

The ‘subscribe’ option has been great for things we use a lot of and forget to buy- like dog treats, bar soap and razors.

Oh cool! I didn’t know about the price alerts!
