How An iPhone App Can Change Your Grocery Run This Week

February 12, 2015

iPhone apps will make sure you never have to coupon AGAIN. How one app made my grocery run so much easier!

I have been stupid busy lately.  So stupid busy that I often put food prep and meal planning on the backburner- going to the grocery store can be overwhelming at times, so I’ve taken the reigns of my busy schedule and decided that my grocery  runs needed a bit of retooling.  When I’m running errands, I don’t have a lot of time to spare and anything I can get my hands on to both save money AND time is a win-win.

As much as I’d love to spend all day clipping coupons, I don’t feel like tracking down a Sunday paper, nor spending hours attempting to fill a binder with paper coupons.  I prefer my savings to be less “extreme couponer” and more “girl on the go.”

Saving at Jewel Osco with MyMixx on the Jewel Osco app

The struggle is real- shopping for groceries can be a real chore if you haven’t planned properly.  Without a strategy on how to save money at the grocery store, a good list and of course, a way to remember all the items on your list, you can easily turn a grocery run into a frustrating experience.

Many times, I have gotten to the store only to realize I forgot my paper list at home, or my paper coupons at home.  Or even worse, I have a coupon that I actually BROUGHT with me, and then forgot to pull out at the checkout counter.  Woops!

I recently downloaded the Jewel-Osco app on my iPhone and it has a few features that have made grocery shopping much simpler for me, hopefully it’ll be helpful for you too!

– Each week, I quickly clip coupons using the MyMixx program- it’s their savings program to add all the deals with.  I punch in my phone number at the register and it automatically applies the savings to each of my clipped items.  No paper to remember.

– I also have a running total of items on my shopping list within the app so I’m sure I don’t forget anything.

– Any receipts I need can be emailed or texted over so I can keep records and track my spending and stay on budget.

My MyMixx savings at Jewel-Osco

My first week using the app, the gals at the checkout counter were so excited that I was already using MyMixx to save.  Last week, I saved 32% on my grocery bill, this week, I saved nearly 21% on my grocery bill.  My time an effort to shave off that much off my grocery bill was minimal- it goes where I go, and I can clip coupons when I’m on the train, or even when I’m sitting in the parking lot.

Needless to say, I’m very happy about the Jewel-Osco app, it’s already saved me well over $60 in my last two trips to Jewel-Osco and I’ve scored some great deals on food, toiletries and paper products for the house.  Stay tuned for my next grocery haul update!
