Frugal Fashion: Fashion That Gives Back

July 23, 2012

FEED freewaters TOMS

Sunglasses-  TOMS  /  Dress-  August Wrinkle (on sale now!) /  Necklace-  The Petite Hermine

Unless this is your first time to Frugal Beautiful, you’ll know that I recently gave up birthday festivities for my 26th in order to fundraise for charity: water.  I’m a huge fan of fashion that gives back and I believe that innovation in the way we give will truly create lasting change for those we serve by further engaging those who donate.  The fact is, we Americans love our stuff.  We also love to give, why not bring the two together and combine a love of looking good with a love of doing good?

Philanthropic fashion is becoming a passion of mine and as I explore career options, I would love to work for or collaborate with a company that’s leading the charge of changing the way we buy and the way we give.  I proudly wear my heart on my sleeve when I know that what I’m sporting is giving back.

A few of my other favorite companies that help us do good & look good that I love are:  Jedidiah Clothing, Radiant Cosmetics  & Sevenly.

FEED Bags

This FEED bag provides 30 meals & 20 ARV treatments with Project RED- seen here.

Freewaters women's sandals

Freewaters Sandals were founded by surfers that wanted to address the clean water pandemic.

My freewaters-  top- Bolinas / bottom- Vezpas

Thank you to everyone who is donating to my charity: water campaign. I’m going to keep fundraising through July & perhaps tie it into my new ebook that’s coming out (surprises ahead!)  This year has truly been one of the best birthdays ever, thank you to everyone for the kind words, emails, donations & tweets-  I really feel totally blessed!

So, what’s your favorite doing-good & looking-good company?

(or, how many pairs of TOMS do you own?)

I’ve owned a few pairs of TOMS that had to be thrown out since they were totally worn to pieces, but right now I have two and am waiting for the new collection to come out for fall… I can’t wait to see what they come up with!

As someone studying nonprofit organizations and as an avid volunteer, I am in LOVE with the idea of philanthropic fashion. I think there is a lot of potential in that niche! Thank you for the link to Sevenly! I know where I’m going to shop my next paycheck. Great and inspiring post.

  7. I love the idea of philanthropic and fashion, and seeing any company that merges those 2 together has a place in my heart.

I like the bad and want those sandles. It’s nice when being fashionable can help a good cause. Thank you for sharing. I’ll have to check this out.

Love this post! I’m a huge fan of all the FEED stuff, in fact when I was pregnant I actually spent $18 on a FEED bib. One bib! But it gave vaccines to children in undeveloped countries and was super cute (was part of the disney collaboration and said “feed my small world”)
