Dress to Impress: I’m Graduating!

May 1, 2012

As I write this, I have finally submitted the FINAL FINAL for my graduate degree… my paperwork has been filed, I have as many green lights as one could have and I am ready to be DONE!

I’m stuck between two outfits (and a third which may or may not arrive in time) for the graduate school commencement ceremony in about a week…could you tell me which you like better?

Note:  The taupe dress will not be so busty (I have something to go under it now) and either dress will be paired with these (yes!) red-soled dream shoes… so that in mind, which dress do you like better and what accessories would you  pair with it?

Commencement Dress

{I snagged these dresses off HauteLook on saleand are made by Darling. The shoes are another story entirely, those were a “big save” over time!}

So which dress gets your vote, and what jewelry or hairstyles would you pair with it?  (Curly or Straight?)

I vote for the black one with curly hair! That dress is super cute and I'm jealous of your ability to wear dresses.

That is, the black one and your hair should be curly. Not a dress with curly hair, because that would just be creepy.

I ike the outfit on the left because it just seems more summery than the black! Is your ceremony outdoors or will you be indoors? The black may be too hot if you will be outside. My ceremony was outside and I was sweating in my sleeveless dress and my cap and gown.

    Congrats btw!

Oh and for accessories I love the nude pumps but I'd add some gold jewelry – bracelets or a necklace.. like a short gold chain necklace and earrings.. not huge earrings but simple diamond studs or something.

I love the taupe one. It would look super cute with a curly side pony tail. Except I don’t know if that would go with the cap…

I'd say the one on the left and curly hair!

Let's be honest. You look fucking fantastic in both of them. 🙂

If I HAD to pick, I like the black. Understated glam.

I like the black one. Curly hair! congrats on graduation 🙂

LOVE the beige and black lace dress on the right with straight hair – gorgeous 🙂

I like both, but if I had to choose one, I'd say the black! The black says "special occasion" more than the tan in my opinion. To really make it glam I'd do soft curls with a side part & pair with some vintage, or vintage inspired, earrings!

  9. Theresa says:

I like both but think the black one would be best

I love the taupe with straight hair. You don't want to blend in with everyone else in black!

I vote for the dress on the left… With curly hair.

I vote for the black one with straight hair. It's so fabulously slimming and cute!

    TAUPE TAUPE TAUPE!!

Def the one on the left. They are both super cute but out of the 2 the one on the left says Yay I am finally done with this lets go to a party! LOL! If you do end up wearing the one on the left you should add accessories with some color since the dress is very neutral. I am also biased on wearing black dresses because I think if its a happy special occasion you should wear something happy and light as well.

Love the dresses! I would go with the black one. I am a fan of black dresses, it is such a classic look. You can take a black dress and then pair it with really colorful accessories and shoes! Like, say, hot pink! Congratulations on graduating!

Taupe dress for sure, and I will always suggest curly hair.

I vote for the black dress. It is pretty but it'll be under a gown. The tan dress is a little bit more va-va-va voom and shouldn't be hidden. I would say straight hair because your cap would smoosh the curls. I love the color red so that should be your accessories. 🙂

  18. Jennifer says:

Congrats. i choose the black one.

I choose the taupe dress with either a thicker bracelet or a few stacked ones. I don't think you'll need a necklace if you're wearing something underneath the dress on top. As much as I love curly hair, I think straight hair would make this look sleeker as the dress itself is flirty (gives some balance).

congrats! you look stunning in the black

Love the dress to the right! Pair it with some chunky earrings and nothing else! Keep your hair simple and sleek.

    Congrats!

Welcome!
