Seriously, where can I get the chevron socks??!
The Iron Girl was my second 10k- the last being in October for the Surf City Beach Derby. The experience was totally different and while I still have a lot to learn, I’m less of a novice and more of a runner. I feel far more knowledgeable about running for my second 10k, and have been reading up on racing technique along with my time in the gym that’s helped me physically and mentally prepare.
When I started running, ignorance was bliss. Previously, reading about running and trying to implement better technique was overwhelming since I didn’t see myself as a real runner. When I went into my first 10k, having never really raced that distance before- my ignorance was an asset. I figured it would be hard, but since I’d never actually run it, I couldn’t psych myself out or worry about it. Now that I’ve had a 10k, I not only know I can do it- it was time to improve my form and really apply myself.
Running on Veteran’s Day was awesome, thank you to our awesome vets! / My After- Chocolate Milk- could you vote for me for Team Refuel? / Running into awesome friends
Miraculously, I brought my time down by 7 minutes and finished 6.24 miles in 1:11. It may not be impressive to anyone else, but I really pushed it and am damn proud! The only problem I encountered was running in the cold- I was shivering at the start and my muscles felt cold no mater how hard I tried to warm up.
During mile 1 I was so cold I could barely function- even with racing tights, skirt, shirt and long sleeved shirt over it. I’m at the point now where I can run a mile without stopping (I KNOW, RIGHT?!) but my muscles were cold, and my lungs started to hurt after a half mile. A very kind woman saw me pull over to the sidelines to walk it off, she patted me on the back and encouraged me to try again and jog. Several times when I had to slow down, I’d see her pass me, she’d nod forward and smile, and I’d start up again.
Her encouragement helped me push as hard as I could and finish strong- I thanked her after we crossed the finish line. Seriously- that moment of encouragement from a complete stranger will surely be one of my most powerful and special running memories and it sums up so much of the atmosphere of the Iron Girl.
The Iron Girl lets you personalize your bib if you reg early plus everyone (5k, 10k & Mother/Daughter) gets a finisher medal & shirt.
Congrats on your new PR! 🙂 That must’ve been awesome to see when you were done.

Congrats on the PR GIRL, You’ll be ready for the Princess in no time!
Congrats!!! I ran my first 10k on Sunday in 1:12– so we are a pretty similar pace!
Shannyn! That’s so great! What a great time improvement! And lots of cool swag. Not sure if these would be the best for running, but….

Congrats! I think your story also goes to show how powerful the kind words of a stranger can be — and that we should all try to encourage throughout our day – you never know what impact your words might have on someone’s day – even a complete stranger!!
Congrats for pursuing and meeting your goals.
I haven’t ever done a 10k and don’t intend to. I started ‘running’ (really more of a very slow job) when I turned 50 and ran a few 5Ks, now I have resultant joint issues. So now I walk.

I see a lot of interesting articles on your blog.
You have to spend a lot of time writing, i know how to
save you a lot of work, there is a tool that creates unique, google friendly posts in couple of minutes,
just search in google – laranita’s free content source
The article was rather catching and intriguing
enough to get all possible nuances to recall. I do get pleasure from reading the content and the writing mode of the author, etc as I did if found https://bestgunsafeusa.com/gun-cases/. I suggest you write such sorts of articles daily to provide the audience like me all the necessary information. In my view, it’s
better to be prepared for all the unexpected situations
beforehand, so thanks, it was pretty cool.
