Super Sweet Vacation Deals for Valentine's Day or an Anniversary

Just as we breathed a sigh of relief that our holiday shopping was complete, Valentine’s Day sneaks up on us, throwing us into another frenzy to score the perfect gift for our one and only.

While our credit card bills pile up, it is possible to give a thoughtful present without getting a part time job. Instead of reaching for the wrapping paper, think about giving your other half an inexpensive experience rather than another item to collect.

After all, spending quality time on an exciting new adventure or sharing a unique meal together not only fosters your love for each other, but leaves memories that last far longer than a new watch. Here are my top tips for romantic experiences and trips when ya girl is on a budget.

Adventurous Outings

If hunkering down inside despite chilly temperatures is not your thing, opt for an active trip to the mountains. Travel during the week to reap the major benefits ski lodges offer during the off hours, such as these steals in Okemo, VT. Visiting local parks is another great idea since most places waive their entrance fees once winter sets in.

Beachy Getaways

If a single snow flake leaves you running for cover, a beach vacation may be more your style. Aim for the prime window of time before spring breakers arrive to get luxury experiences with limited spending. This site allows you access to the best values in the Florida Keys while Living Social has an array of all-inclusive deals in the Dominican Republic.

Urban Escapes

Now is the time to score major deals before the summer tourism season kicks in. If museums and art exhibits are your cup of tea, try checking out these options during their free visiting hours in New York City. If you’re music lovers, these packages in Nashville, Tennessee might be just what you’re looking for.

Southern Stays

For foodie lovers jonesing for some sweet tea and collard greens, a visit south is in the books. In between biscuits in honey, enjoy these special offers on haunted tours in Savannah, Georgia. Or, try to hit every delicious eats on this list in Charleston, South Carolina.

Winery Weekends

If a glass of Merlot and sharp cheddar are more your style, search out smaller wineries where you’ll have a better chance of trying free samples and exploring the vineyards. These packages in the Finger Lakes, New York offer anywhere from 15% off your stay to a free additional night. Or, bypass crowd-grabbing Napa Valley for quaint Sonoma and take in the gorgeous landscapes along with your Pinot.

Alternatives

If you’re hoping to stay closer to home, book a local bed and breakfast for a change of scenery and flexible scheduling. Or, the ever-popular staycation and a thoughtful package made up of popcorn, blankets and wine may be just the vacation you need.

How are you spending Valentine’s Day?
One of my favorite ways to spend this holiday is to visit the shore in the dead of winter. no, really. While we have no plans to go swimming, we love walking on the beach bundled up and enjoying the rare moments on the quiet beach.

Here in San Diego for anniversaries, birthdays and Valentine’s Day, hubby and I love to check out hole-in-the wall breweries that are abundant in the county. We ask around for suggestions of great breweries and look to see if there are any special events happening, like food pairings. These events are great ways to learn about the craft brews that local companies are making and opportunities to discover new flavor combinations and recipe ideas. Of course, beer tasting at breweries is a great way to get a good buzz on the cheap! Flights can be as cheap as $5! While this isn’t the most romantic date idea in the traditional sense, it’s a great date night idea for beer fans, foodies, and anyone looking for fun.

That sounds like a great idea! I love experimenting new beers but I’m not always in the mood for a huge glass, this sounds like a lot of fun! Bonus, supporting local breweries is always a plus.

  2. February 14th is my 2 year blog-anniversary so I am celebrating that!!! <3
