I hope you all had a fabulous holiday and merry Christmas (for those that celebrate it!) For me, the holidays are a time of gratitude and celebration, but also a time of planning and dreaming for the new year. I usually keep my goals to myself, cataloged in a journal or a vision board hanging on my wall, but this year my goals are much bigger and their achievement will not be a solo endeavor.
2013 is already set up to be a big year, since I am running my first half marathon, the Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland with runDisney in January, followed by the Princess Half Marathon at Disney World in February 2013 back to back.
Additionally, a long time friend and I are running the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in Washington, D.C. I can’t believe how much running has changed my life, and the impact it has on my life and the community it has lead me to continue to be an unbelievable blessing.
So… on to the goals!
Move back to Chicago & Snag My Dream Job
When I left Chicago this summer, I knew there was a good chance I’d be returning. After a few months spent on the west coast, I’ve set the date for end of March/early April to move my tush back to Chicago and snag a full time position. My goal will be to find a position that incorporates my passion for blogging and social media, though the “dream job” description itself has varied from company to company.
I absolutely love marketing and using the online space as a community builder and amplifier. I’ve worked as a social media manager for online brands and entrepreneurs, it is thrilling for me to see a project start as an idea and end up being amplified and executed through the brand’s various employees and marketing channels.
My dream company would allow me to manage accounts or brands through social media, online marketing and influencer outreach, but I’m excited to be in a position that allows me to stretch and adapt as a part of a team to launch programs & products or to help promote events.Whether I find the dream job or not, my stuff will be packed in the back of my Ford Focus and I’ll be on the road to Chicago by spring, if not sooner.
Run 13 Races in 2013- Hopefully 13 Half Marathons!
I really would like to do 13 half marathons in 2013, but not knowing what job I’ll have and if that’s even a possibility, it’s been hard to plan my racing schedule for the next year. Right now, I have 10 races officially booked- 5 are half marathons. I have quite the Pinterest Racing Wish List and would love to add the Disneyland Half Marathon and am dreaming of running in a new country.
I’m going to plan as much racing as I can and hope that I can make it work with a new (still unknown) job and (still unknown) budget. I’m not one to rest on my laurels, and the thought of sitting around, waiting for a job to pop up before I can plan my goals and personal development for 2013 just seems unrealistic…. if I have to cancel a trip, I cancel a trip- but I don’t want to miss out on great opportunities for the purpose of “wait and see.” First world (runner) problems, eh?
Get Serious About Healthy Eating & Exercise
Of course, if I’m going to be running 13 races and a ton of half marathons in 2013, you would assume that would mean I’d be slim and trim, right? Well, not really. Though my legs have gotten super toned and I’ve been hitting the gym and the road for a few months now, I realize that “working out,” isn’t as efficient, nor is it as bearable if you don’t eat properly.
I want to be bikini-ready this year but beyond that, I totally need to be ready for my intense training schedule. I have cut back on my running since I’ve been going to the gym 3 days a week and just felt really tired- I think it’s time to amp up my nutrition and to hike up my mileage again. I currently am experimenting in making green smoothies every morning and will be enrolling in the Kaia F.I.T. BRIK sessions (like bootcamp) which involves 5 days a week at the gym for 6 weeks.
My goal for 2013 will be to run 600 miles. I did about 230 in about 5 months so I think 600 miles in 2013 is doable! I’d really like to shoot for 750, but again, I’m not sure what work will be like and am worried I’ll be over extending myself.
Get A Passport & Use It!
I have never had a passport, and have only travelled to Mexico and Canada (before passports were required). This has been my goal for two years now, and now that I’m done with grad school and have become a runner, it seems like the perfect time to lace up my shoes 0n new soil!
I would love to do the the Sea Wheeze by Lululemon in Vancouver, Canada this year as well. As a member of Team Refuel, I also get the chance to compete for an all expenses paid trip to Edinburgh, Scotland to run the Rock N Roll Half Marathon there!
My Mini-Goals For 2013
1. Cook more efficiently, frequently and frugally. I will be very excited to reunite with the beau in Chicago, as he loves cooking and I rarely do.
2. Get serious about photography. Getting a free Rebel T2i last year was awesome, but I have a lot to learn about creating shots worthy of it’s high-tech grandeur. I also have lost two camera remotes this year.
3. Get settled in my new digs and learn how to decorate like an adult (ha!)
4. Complete Kaia BRIK (a 5 day a week for 6 weeks bootcamp)
5. Save $1,000 for my “Nuptial Fund” and finally max out my Roth IRA.
6. Get new portraits done, order business cards & possible site redesign (eek!)
What are you most excited about for 2013?
