Here in Chicago, even if the weather hasn’t gotten the message, our wardrobes are finally waking up to springtime! If you’re trying to get a taste of spring fashion on a budget, I have some advice for you that will help your wardrobe transition to spring without breaking the bank!
Accessorize With Scarves
Spring can be tricky when it comes to dressing warm in transitional weather. While it may be tempting, don’t ditch scarves entirely! Trade in your bulky knit scarves for something a bit lighter- a cotton print, gauzey infinity scarf or something that adds more texture than warmth is a great way to make sure you stay warm without being smothered in winter heaviness.
Transition Your Winter Wardrobe
You can repurpose your winter knits by pairing them with spring shorts or flowy skirts. The key to transitioning pieces is to find balance between a heavy winter piece and a lighter spring or summer piece. If your top is heavy, go with something lighter on the bottom (whether in color or in heaviness) or the other way around. You can still wear dark wash jeans, but liven it up with color and flowy textures, pair with a cardigan if it’s brisk outside.
Incorporate Trends For Less
Trends are fun to play with, they instantly make even an old blouse and jeans look en pointe with the latest fashions, but please, do not spend a lot! Things that are in right now that you can get for cheap- chunky necklaces, oxford shoes, shirt dresses, boyfriend shirts & color blocked neutrals for handbags and totes. Most of these pieces are meant to be statements- not wardrobe staples, pick them up at Target or Forever 21 for less.
Get Gutsy With Color
While everyone tends to think pastel for spring, you can pick any color of the rainbow and sprinkle it into your wardrobe as a budget friendly fashion tactic.
