NO BIRTHDAY FOR ME! The Charity:Water Fundraiser

July 7, 2012

Charity:Water

I’m in Portland as we speak for The World Domination Summit.  Today, I heard the founder of Charity:Water speak and it stoked the fires within me- my birthday is in two weeks and it was like this just made perfect sense.

I am surrounded by blessings, but in this time of rapid transition, sometimes I feel I lack purpose and direction.  Hearing Scott Harrison, Charity:Water’s founder speak today was a much needed anchor to the mind and heart of a dreamer.  What a beautiful opportunity and a profound blessing, two weeks before my birthday.

There is such a need for clean water.  Water is something I’ve always taken for granted and give little thought to- but what if you had to choose between giving water to your children, your spouse, or to clean and sanitize your home or cook food with a limited water supply?  What choices would you make if you only could lug a few gallons of water home each day?  Who would have to go thirsty?

But for us first world-ers..let me put in perspective..no water would also mean NO BEER and in a time of celebration and innovation at The World Domination summit, I would like to share a little bit of the profound blessings I feel now.

Imagine not being able to take a shower. To cook your food.  To water your plants.  To hydrate your pets, loved ones, or clean your clothes.  Charity:Water makes clean drinking water a reality for people all around the world.

The business model is innovative- you know where the money is going..no red-tape businessey bullcrapola.  No black holes of donations or annoying mailing address labels you didn’t even want (see rant: here.) No selling your name to a thousand other orgs.  Just good works.

This year I’m giving up my birthday. I turn 26 in 2 weeks.  No cake, no presents, no overpriced martinis.  Just Charity:Water.  I want to share this blessing I have.

I’m not having a birthday this year so other people can have access to clean drinking water.

$2600 will provide 130 people with water.  That’s my insane goal, but it feels good.

arlright- end plea here…I’m going back to the crazy streets of Portland to meet up with amazing #WDS2012’ers and drink more beer. Hooray for moi!  Much love to all of you, and thank you 🙂
